What are Standup Paddleboards or SUP?
A standup paddleboard is a board that looks like a cross between a windsurfer board and a surfboard. The SUPs originated from surfing and appears to have originated in Hawaii. Stand up paddle boarders stand on boards that are floating on the water, and use a paddle to propel themselves through the water. The sport was documented in a 2013 report that identified it as the outdoor sporting activity with the most first-time participants in the United States that year. They’ve become extremely popular on large ponds and lakes, as well as a favorite close-to-the shoreline at the beach activity.
